Mentis Reopens
For over one-and-a-half century, the products of Mentis Ltd. decorated theatrical costumes, clerical vestments, military uniforms, traditional costumes, as well as creations of well-known fashion ateliers in Greece and abroad. This was the oldest commercial and manufacturing venture in the country, which operated from 1867 to 2011. When the business was forced to close in 2011, the Benaki Museum accepted the generous offer of the Mentis family, in order to create a living workshop / museum, taking the opportunity to preserve such know-how being lost. The Mentis Donation is housed in the old factory that belonged to the business at 6 Polyphemou Street, in Petralona. In line with the opening of this new endeavour, the Benaki Museum Shop will host an exhibition of works by 47 artists, who used as their raw materials products of MENTIS manufacture, in order to create objects with a contemporary aesthetic.
